Reading an excellent coverage of BI and CI summit by Sally Church, I regret to say I wish a former client could understand this ten principles.

1) understand value of CI
2) CI and analysis has no intrinsic value - informed decisions create value
3) Best intelligence may reside inside your own company
4) Value not cost drives CI
5) Act as a CI consultant in your own company
6) Start small
7) Avoid copying other CI depts - benchmark and learn
8) Create a mission statement
9) Allow time to market and communicate services
